Library Survival Guide for Faculty & Staff

Orientation to the library with resources and services for employees

The library staff welcome you to Wake Tech Libraries.  As a new employee, you are eligible for library privileges.  These privileges allow you to check out books, multimedia, and laptops from the library, use our extensive digital collection of databases, ebooks, eaudiobooks, and ejournals on and off-campus, and receive information, orientation, and training support from Wake Tech library staff.

This guide provides an orientation to the library, including our services and resources. You can navigate using the left-side navigation.  And if you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at https://www.waketech.edu/student-services/libraries/staff.

Library Services for Faculty

Let the library help you out! Here are just a few of the services we offer:

  • Course Reserves. Do you have textbooks, DVDs, or other items you want to make available to your students? We can house them at the library. Just bring the items to the library, and we'll set it all up.
  • Library Instruction. Do your students have a research project to do? Set up a library instruction session for your class. We'll show your students around the library and teach them how to access the online databases.
  • Research Guides. Do you want a list of library resources available to your students? We can create an online research guide (like this one!) just for your class.

Visit the library to learn more about any of these services.

What's in the Library

Wake Tech Libraries are open five days a week.

Most libraries have:

  • computers
  • laptops
  • a photocopier
  • study rooms
  • emergency flash drives
  • calculators

You can check out books, CDs, and DVDs. To get a library card, come to any library and fill out an application. If you find that we don't have a book on the subject you need, then we can request one from another library. This service is called Interlibrary Loan, and you can do it from home. If you find that you cannot afford your textbooks or forget yours and need to do some work, there is a textbook reserve collection available. Books are not available for all classes, but if your professor has an extra copy, you can ask him/her to place it on hold at the library.
