Emergency/Fire Management Sevices

A brief selection of the items available at the PSEC Library.  Books currently assigned as textbooks  for FIP classes may be used in-library only (they cannot be checked out). 

The PSEC library also has many resources on leadership and leading; in addition, there is a leadership collection at the Main library.

Videos check out for one week.

Use the library’s online catalog (opens in a new window) to find circulating and reference materials, including books and audio-visual resources. Our catalog uses the Library of Congress (LC) classification system and subject headings. LC assigns call numbers (opens in new window) (letters and numerals) according to the book’s primary subject. Many fire science materials will begin with T, TH, or TK.

Some quick catalog search tips:

• To limit your search to just the PSEC Library, once you are already in the online catalog, select Wake Public Safety for library (near the bottom of the dropdown list). To search all Wake Tech Libraries, select Wake Libraries (near the top).
• Truncate with “$” (for example, combust$ will bring up combustion, combustibility, combustible, etc.)
• Put phrases in quotes " ":
  • "fire prevention" or 
  • "smoke detector" or 
  • "hazardous materials"
• Use Power Search to limit by material type (e.g., DVD)
• Click on “Catalog Record” and use the subject term links near the bottom to find additional materials.
• Click on URL to see online content (usually tables of contents or publisher description, but sometimes full electronic resources)

If the item you want doesn’t appear in our catalog, expand your search to include all libraries (select Change Holdings Display, and choose ALL for library). If the item is owned at another CCLINC library and can be lent (is not reference or restricted), you may place a hold on that item from within the catalog, and by specifying WAKE-PSEC as the delivery location, it will be sent here for you. You’ll receive a phone call and/or email notifying you when the item is available to be checked out.

This search box will search all six Wake Tech Community College libraries.  You can also request books from community colleges across the state.
