A professional association's goal is to advance the profession through the organizations' members. A professional association, also sometimes called a professional organization, also creates public awareness of the profession.

Air Conditioning Contractors of America Association (opens in new window)
ACCA is the only nationwide, non-profit association for professionals that install and maintain HVAC ContractorHVACR, indoor environment and building performance systems.
Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians (opens in new window)
The Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association (RETA), is an international society of individuals and companies involved in the design, operation and service of industrial refrigeration systems. Its purpose is to provide education and training, as well as networking benefits, to both experienced operators and those who have recently entered the field.
Air Conditioning Trade Association (opens in new window)
ACTA members are united in their commitment to the ideals of free enterprise, fair and open competition, less government, and increased quality training opportunities.. ACTA assists contractors by providing HVAC Sheet Metal classes, Service Technician classes, and EPA Certification testing.

NC Codes

The following codes provide safeguards for North Carolinians with regard to building safety and fire prevention. Codes protect health, safety, and welfare as they relate to the residential and commercial built environment. The following are links to North Carolina Codes relevant to HVACR.

International Codes

The International Mechanical Code (IMC) is a set of standards focused on the safety of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. It is published by the International Code Council (ICC). It is updated on a three-year cycle. The IMC protects public health and safety for all building heating, cooling, and ventilation related design, installation, and inspection by providing minimum safeguards for people at homes, schools, and workplaces.
