QR Code stands for "Quick Response." It's a readable bar code that can store website links, map directions, phone numbers, email addresses, video links, photo galleries, and more.
The reason why they are more useful than a standard barcode is that they can store and digitally present much more data. The other key feature of QR Codes is that many modern smartphones and tablets can scan and display the information on the screen.
