The NUR 111 Research Guide contains all the information you need to locate articles for your project. The research guide contains several pages to help walk you through finding information:
It is common practice in health and medical research to restrict information sources to only those published within the past 5 years. This is due to the quickly changing nature of health and medical information. In other words, when conducting research in the health and medical fields, you want to use the most up-to-date information so you can best help your patients.
However, cultural information does not change so rapidly. For example, followers of a religion that has been around for thousands of years aren't going to change their practices overnight. Therefore, it is not necessary to restrict cultural information sources to only those published within the past 5 years. In fact, restricting your information sources to only those recently published may actually hurt your research since there is much to be found in older sources.
If you have a question regarding a particular information source, do not hesitate to ask a librarian or your instructor.
Welcome!
Welcome to the NUR 111 Research Guide. This research guide was specifically designed for the NUR 111 Cultural Diversity in Healthcare Practices and Communication Project.
As a nurse, you will work with a very diverse group of patients. Being aware of how culture influences health care practices and communication will lead to better understanding between you and your patient, thus leading to better outcomes.
In this research guide, you will find lists of research databases, books, and websites that should help you find information for the group project. Also included in the guide are tutorials on how to search databases and cite your sources.
